"Colombia’s Internal Migration"
Juan Gallego focused on explaining how in the past decade the Colombian society has been marked by a significant internal migration from rural to urban areas. Political, social, and economic problems, coupled with a widespread insecurity, have forced this migration, while the same factors have acted as powerful deterrents for immigration to the country. Gallego highlighted the importance of the policies implemented by the Former-President Álvaro Uribe to solve this problem; he pursued an aggressive "democratic security policy" aimed at dismantling guerrilla and paramilitary groups and promoting economic recovery.
