Efficient Environmental Policies and Households' Preferences and Choices for Sustainable Goods and Services
This project seeks to confront pivotal challenges at the intersection of environmental policies, household decision-making, and sustainable practices. Through the use of advanced empirical techniques and theoretical modelin, we aim to shed light on how environmental policies influence household choices within the realms of sustainable mobility, energyefficient real estate, and electricity reliability amidst the increasing penetration of renewable generation.
We propose to evaluate the effectiveness of diverse policy instruments, ranging from fuel duties and low-emission zones to energy performance certificates, in steering households towards environmentally conscious decisions. Encompassing diverse geographical contexts, including Spain, the UK, India, and the US, the project aims to provide a nuanced understanding of policy implications across varied socio-economic settings.

Objective
The project aims to provide evidence to contribute to the broader discourse on the effectiveness of environmental policies. Specifically, it seeks to offer evidence to guide the development of more efficient and effective strategies and policies, considering the government's limited resources and the distortions from the market. It also aims to quantify the environmental externalities and well-being associated with the implementation of possible alternative policies.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
To achieve the general objective of this project, a set of specific objectives is presented, manifested as more precise research questions. These questions are strategically formulated within the context of economic sectors traditionally associated with environmental problems. The research questions guiding this project are:
Do environmental policies encourage households to purchase more green assets (e.g., electric cars, energy-efficient housing)?
What kind of environmental policies are more efficient in increasing the choice for more green assets?
If households choose more green assets, what is the effect of environmental policies on emissions and overall welfare?
What is the role of evolving individual (households) preferences in all the above?
These key research questions are relevant to the specific objectives of this project:
Evaluation of Environmental Policies and Household Choices for Sustainable Mobility
Evaluation of Environmental Policies and Household Decisions for a More Energy-efficient Real Estate Sector
Evaluation of Household Electricity Reliability and Affordability in the Face of Growing Renewable Generation.
Unveiling Household Preferences for Sustainable Goods and Services: An Experimental Approach.
