Luis A. Gil-Alaña, researcher at the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID), will publish a chapter in the book "Economic Integration, Currency Union, and Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in East Africa", which is part of a larger series titled “Advances in African Economics, Social and Political Development”. The research was completed jointly with PhD students Godfrey Madigu and Héctor Cárcel and will be released before June 2016 by Springer.
The chapter is titled "Currency Union in the East African Community" in which they examine the inflation rates from the five countries that form the East African Community (EAC), doing so in the context of their recently signed protocol outlining their plans for launching a monetary union within ten years.
This research is part of a broader project led by Luis A. Gil-Alaña entitled “Macroeconomic and Financial Stability in Developing Economies: Country and Currency unions in Sub-saharan Africa”. This research line uses recent econometric techniques based on Time Series Analysis such as fractional integration and co-integration.
