Does confidence influence demand and responsiveness for information? It’s the question Jared Gars, a PhD candidate from the University of Wisconsin, set out to address in his job market paper titled: “Confidence and Information Usage: Evidence from Soil Testing in India,” which was presented on February 2nd as part of NCID’s Weekly Seminars. Fighting extreme poverty requires giving tools to locals so they can combat poverty from within their own contexts. The Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) understands this and believes that educating the next generation of African economists will be key in achieving that. On the first week of December, Luis Ravina, Director of the NCID, visited the Philippines and Singapore to strengthen the relationship with local partners and met new individuals in both countries. The visit was very satisfactory since new relationships with important institutions and individuals like ambassadors were stablished. Also new means of collaborations arose with our oldest friends in the Philippines that can flourish in the future.
