The Navarra Center for International Development will host the 4th annual Development Week at IESE Business School in Madrid the 1st and the 2nd of June, 2015.
Monday 1/6 will be devoted to a academic workshop on “Human Capital and Development” and Tuesday 2/6 will be center on an academic workshop on “Macroeconomic Stability in Developing Countries”.
Development Week is an international summer gathering between students, academics and professionals specializing in Development. The first editions of this event were held in the University of Navarra starting in 2012 and it has since gained momentum and international participation.
This year Development Week will feature four keynote speakers:
Jere Behrman
Jere Behrman is Professor of Economics at University of Pennsylvania and Research Associate at the Population Studies Center of the same university, where he was the director from 1998 to 2005.
His research focuses in empirical microeconomics especially in developing countries including topics such as labor economics, human resources, project evaluation and incentive systems.
He has published more than 350 academic articles and more than 30 books. Some of these books are: Towards a Better Global Economy: Policy Implications for Global Citizens in the 21st Century, Oxford University Press and, Causes, Correlates and Consequences of Death Among Older Adults: Some Methodological Approaches and Substantive Analyses, Springer.
He has workes as a researcher in many different organizations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the United Nations Development Program.
Pedro Carneiro
Pedro Carneiro is professor of Economics at the University College London, Research Economist of the Centre for Microdata Methods and Practice and a research fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies. Previously he was Associate Professor at Georgtown University and visiting economist at the World Bank.
His research interests focus on development economics, labor economics, the economics of education and microeconometrics as seen in his lastest publications:

Pedro Carneiro has published several books chapters and he is part of the board of editor of the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics since 2013 and Associate Editor of the Journal of Human Capital since also 2013.
Sebastian Edwards
Sebastian Edwards is Professor of International Economics at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the Co-Director of the National Bureau of Economic Research's "Africa Project" and he has previously served as the Chief Economist for Latin America at the World Bank. His research interests include emerging markets, currency crises, capital markets, Latin America, monetary policy, and the Federal Reserve.
He author of several books, his last two books are: Toxic Aid: Economic Collapse and Recovery in Tanzania, Oxford University Press, (2014) and, Left Behind: Latin America and the False Promise of Populis, University of Chicago Press, (2010).
Sebastian Edwards has received many awards such as the Carlos Diaz Alejandro Prize for lifelong scholarly contributions to the study of Latin America in 2012 and the World Economy Lecture, University of Nottingham in 2000.
Liliana Rojas-Suarez
Liana Rojas is a Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development (CGD) and the Chair of the Latin American Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee (CLAAF). She is an expert in Macroeconomic policy, international economics, financial markets, Latin America and regional public goods.
In 2012 she was awarded “Economist of the year” by the Peruvian Chamber of Commerce. She is the co-author or editor of more than ten books. Her most recent book is Growing Pains in Latin America: An Economic Growth Framework as Applied to Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru, where she explains and contextualizes the need for a new approach to growth in Latin America. She has also co-chaired the CGD Working Group on “Policy Principles for Expanding Financial Access”.
She has been a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for International Economics and has also served as a Professor at Anahuac University in Mexico and an Advisor for PEMEX, Mexico's National Petroleum Company.
